You can help us or even reduce your own plastic consumption with the aid of the list below. We list some of the most challenging products to find without plastic packaging in black if we haven't found a good solution or in green if we have. If you have a solution or a better/alternate solution let us know and we'll put it on the list for everyone to share.
This list will be best suited to people living in the Kamloops area but hopefully some of the tips are universal.
Solution Exchange List
Cereal - Bulk isle and reusable or non-plastic packaging.
Cat food -
Clothing - We haven't done much clothing shopping but so far it seams most clothes are mostly free of plastic packaging but have those little plastic straps attaching the tags.
Deodorant - We think we can get some deoderant at Lush. Still haven't confirmed this yet.
Laundry detergent - Powders can be purchased
Milk - Cartons are plasticized. Powdered milk can be found in the bulk isle but we are hesitant to use it for anything other than baking (not sure it would be the same nutritionally or tasting). The only bottled milk we know of in town uses disposable plastic lids.
Nuts - Bulk isle and reusable or non-plastic packaging.
Pasta - Bulk isle and reusable or non-plastic packaging.
Shampoo - We need a solution before we finish the bottle we are on. We've heard of bars of shampoo. Our friend Steph says she'll bring some from Lush in Kelowna the next time she comes to town. Hopefully it's plastic free!
T.P. - We found toilet paper at a commercial cleaning business.
